Hello and welcome
to Msitu!

Msitu (pronounced MM-see-two ) is a Swahili word that means forest and all things wild are my passion! My name is Mina Said-Allsopp and I am a Wild Food Specialist and baker who spends all her free time rooting amongst the undergrowth to find that elusive mushroom.

2018 walk dates will be announced shortly!

We'd hoped to get these up by the beginning of January - but we've not had time to sit with a calendar over Christmas

I started running Foraging Walks & Courses in 2007, while completing my PhD at Leeds University. Since then, I am proud to say that I have taught several hundred people from all over the country to forage!  I have appeared in articles in the Leeds Guide, The Big Issue in The North, The Guardian and Elle Decoration and been on BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio Gloucester, BBC Look North in April 2015 (watch the video below), the ‘Juicy Fruits’ episode of Season 1 of ‘The Edible Garden’ with Alys Fowler on BBC2 and have been on the front cover of North Leeds Life Magazine.

I believe that knowing more about our food and getting closer to nature is the key to leading a healthier, more sustainable life.  I know that since I started foraging, I have been more in tune with the world around me than ever before.

If you have ever seen those TV chefs cook up a glorious feast full of exotic ingredients like wild watercress or rock samphire, or just gone for a walk and thought to yourself ‘I wonder if I could eat that?’ then you’ve come to the right place. Over time, I hope that this website will grow into a great resource for you to use full of ideas, recipes and tips.  I have also set up a Facebook group called “Forage & Feast, Wild Food Cooking and Preserving” where I share all the delicious things I make with my foraged finds, with new recipes going up almost on a daily basis!

I hope you will enjoy reading my Blog, I update it regularly (ish) and it charts my adventures in Wild Food, join my mailing list (the link is on the right of this page) or you could follow me on twitter @mushroomina and see every thing that I forage or make from foraged ingredients. What better way to know what’s in season, what it looks like, and how to eat it!

And the best thing of all is that I also run Wild Food Walks and events. These tend to be in Leeds but I happily travel around to do bespoke events. To see what dates are up for this year and to book onto one of my walks, check out the Wild Food Courses Page or if you’d like to book me for a private event, please use the form on the contact page!
